Public transport

A very expensive train service connects the airport with the city. Trains leave every 10 minutes and the trip to the city centre takes about 15 minutes.

If you are not headed to the CBD, in many cases it is substantially cheaper and not much slower to take a bus instead of the train. There are too many bus options to list here, but you can find more information on the Sydney buses web site.

Taxi service

A taxi to the city centre costs about AUD25.

Banking, ATMs, and currency exchange

Several ATMs are located in the airport. However, none of the ATMs in the public area of the international terminal are standard bank ATMs. Instead, they are private-label ATMs run by currency exchange companies. When using these ATMs to draw money from an account outside of Australia, do NOT to allow it to perform the currency conversion (the machine will offer this to you as a "convenience"). If you allow the machine to do this, you will pay considerably more for your withdrawal. Instead, instruct the machine to process the transaction in Australian dollars and let your bank perform the exchange.

Internet access

Free Wifi is available in the Public Lounge area of Terminal 2 near the Cartier Store.

Access in the rest of the airport is provided by Optus and Telstra and is charged.

Luggage storage

There is an attended left luggage service on the arrivals level of each terminal. Storage costs about AUD11 per day.

Passenger feedback

Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport website does not provide information anywhere about the cost of an airport cart or trolley. Is there a cost for the cart or trolley when Departing or is there a cost when Arriving?

Please respond back by email. Thank you

Thank you

Dear all visitors,
I would like to draw attension of Airport Authority of Kings Smith airport,Sydney, that No doubt about their system, is good, but bad impression cames when we come to departure lounge, out side on footpath at international airport.YOU HAVE TO RATE TROLLY, INSERTING 2 AUS DOLLER IN BOX, THEN TROLLY WILL BE AVAILABLE. IT IS SHAMEFUL THAT FOREIGNERS WHO GO BACK TO THEIR COUNTRY FEEL THAT ONLY AUSTRALIAN GOVT. HAS NO MIONEY SO IT COLLECTS TROLLY CHARGE,NO OTHER COUNTRIES HAVE SUCH BUISNESS. FOR EXAMPLE, CHANGI,DELHI,DUBAI AIRPORTS NEVER CHARGIES FOR USING TROLLY TO CARRY BAGAGE.i WISH FEDERAL GOVT., MPs and aus.media will take deep interest to abolish such trolly charge from foreigners,we already pay to Airline for arrival charge.

My son came to pick me up from flight TG471 Friday Jan 24, landed at 21.40, son parked about the same time, cleaned immigration and customs relative quickly (by Sydney airport standards), walked to ground floor of car park; two tickets payment machines available in car park.

Entered ticket and credit card in the unit on the right, machine failed to accept any of 5 credit cards provided, by the time we moved to the left unit payment machine car park time payment ticked over from an $8 parking fee to a $16 parking fee.

I consider this really unacceptable due to your faulty payment machine.

Given you keep logs of payment transactions you can reconcile the ticket payment number and time against the credit card name and number of both the right hand machine failure and the left hand machine success.

I would like in principle for Sydney Airport Authority to refund the additional $8 fee due to your failure to provide effective operational equipment.

I will provide the credit card details for your cross reference in auditing the transactional issue.

Regards Colin Berrell

I am sick of your airport. The parking fees increase day by day. Wonder who gobbles the money. To add to our miseries, you had the names of airlines adjacent to the drop off point but now you have got rid of it. If you do not know how to become efficient, go to Changi Airport FOR INTENSE LESSONS.

We arrived from Dubai on an A380, carrying 500 passengers. Another A380 had also landed, plus some flights from USA.
The scrum to get through Customs with our trolleys was intolerable.
There are only 4 small doors for thousands of people. Trolleys were being pushed into bodies, elbows were out and tempers were frayed.
This is an unacceptable welcome for travellers landing in Australia after 14 hour flights.
We had almost 3 hours to catch a connecting flight and had to run for it, the delay was so long.
Get Customs to open up more doors to cope with all these arrivals. It's a very bad show.

On 16 June 2013, I was at the boarding queue. The queue was long but moving. I had 2 cabin bags in hand as my husband had difficult handling his, I left the bags at the turn of the queue to pick them up when I reach it. But a giant immigration/customs offr noticed the bags and yelled on top of his voice asking whose they were. I raised my hand to let him know. When I reached him I picked the bags and told him sorry. He was full of uncalled for words, telling me if I think this is a dance floor or some stuff and he went on and on and even with my apology he continued to humiliate me. He is a big monstrous giant bully, towering above us harrasing passengers at the airport. I can bet you will not encounter anyone like that behaviour in my country in Singapore. It is a terrifying, humiliating and embarrasing encounter, both my husband and I had no words to defend ourselves. I did not commit a crime by doing that. All he could have done is to firmly tell me that my action was not right, which may cause inconvenience to others if he felt so. No others in the queue complained or fussed about the bags left there. We did not even see his name. It is an unforgettable encounter, we will never forget each time we pass through Sydney aiport. Can the authority be more courteous when repremanding passengers.

Having been overseas for a break I was appalled to find chaos at Sydney Customs and baggage once again. 1. The Smart gate failed again and I had to see a an immigration officer.
it took 40 minutes to retrieve baggage from the carousel 3 which was over loaded.
3. Quarentine was backed up to the luggage collection and beyond with few staff to guide travellers and visitors. 4. Huge queues to get a taxi! It took two hours from leaving the aircraft to getting a cab! This is ridiculous. it took 40 mins in Auckalnd the week before. Get your act together.. You should be prepared and ready for the evening influx of flights. If you cant handle it review the flights or staffing levels.

The TRS counter is on arrival floor instead of departure floor, why? On 02/12/10, I wanted to get GST reimbursed, but the door to the lift was too narrow to accomodate the boxes on the trolley, then the trolley wheel broke, then another and another, and the airport lady near the lift yelled at us thinking we didn't understand English!!! Result, I lost GST = AUD120.00 + $8.00 for poor quality trolleys. This is outrageous. I come to Sydney several times per year, and this is always an issue.

Worst airport in the world! Have to pay a hefty parking station fee just for a drive by pick-up of an arrived and waiting passenger that would normally take 10 seconds. An MAp rip off. Avoid arriving at this airport if another one can suit your Australian itinerary. The principle of such a charge is just as important as whatever the cost burden may be to various travellers..

Noone's yet mentioned the fact that you have to pay $2 for a trolley - or is it $4 now?

Either way it's ridiculous.

possibly the worst airport in the world interms of service. The staff are rude, theres no way to pick up passengers without paying $7 at least for stopping less than 5minutes. When you go through immigration you are faced with more rude, loud inconsiderate and RACIST staff who assume that all asians carry some sort of illegal item where as white folks are angles who can be allowed out without even xraying their damn bags.
i would write more but im just so angry with this airport. Im ashamed to say i live in sydney.

While you can bring passengers to the airport by car at no access or parking fee, this is not possible when you pick up arriving passengers. There is no pick-up point. You need to enter the car park and pay min. $7.00. Even if it takes only 4 minutes, as we had recently.
This is daylight robbery.

Not a very good airport. Staff are not very helpful, security delays and bad organisation have caused me to miss flights at this airport, to the point that I choose to fly out of Australia via other airports now.

I agree that the airport Airport Link train is a terrible deal. We paid $15 apiece to get into the city. For the same price we could have taken a taxi directly to the hotel. Or used the bus and paid about 1/4 as much. Isn't the point of a train to reduce cars on the road? Then why make it more expensive than a taxi?
